The Hermit Crab Patch Shell Measuring Caliper. Our shell measuring caliper is designed to make it easy to determine the proper size of shell opening your crab needs. Calipers are a useful and accurate way to measure inside and outside diameters but are typically hard to read.

We have taken a lightweight polycast caliper that is designed to measure down to 1/128", and applied a custom easy to read sticker that is graduated every 1/8". The measurement is read below the 0 (1 1/4" in the picture above).

We measure all of our shell openings from left to right and list them by opening size in 1/8" increments, so using this caliper will help ensure that you get the shell size you desire.

I don't know how I got along without this caliper; actually, how my *hermit crabs* got along without it. I was buying the wrong size shells and was guesstimating every measurement. Now I know for sure what they are currently wearing, the sizes of the spares, and what I need to purchase in the future. The guide that came with them is VERY clear, and includes  photographs, so you won't make a mistake with your next shell order. That in itself is a money saving dream.

They had small shells, and into medium shells. Now I have to size shells . 3 of my purple pinchers in 1'inch to 1'in 1/8 shells.
This caliper is easy to use.

When I ordered this my Boy Friend made fun of me, "what's wrong with the 3 callipers in the garage?" he says. Well first of all they are covered in shop grease, and second, this one is specially labelled in common shell sizes, not ball bearing sizes. So I win!

This is just what I needed. It makes sizing shells a snap. Now I know what size of shells that my Hermies are in now and lets me know just the right size of the shells I'm shopping for to be the next size up for them to grow into.
