Yeah it smells, its scavenger food. I’ve had my hermit crabs for 5 years now, all of them rescues. They love this diet, plus its a fantastic price for a pound. A little goes a long way. As for benefits, i’ve noticed a drastic improvement in activity, coloration and molting success. Supplement with some fresh fruits and veggies (organic) and you’ve got happy crabs.
I don’t usually bother with reviews but the one star review upset with the smell isn’t a reliable indicator. It doesn’t smell good, but the smell wont travel or stick around beyond the food itself. If it smells fishy and a little rotten, that’s normal. I promise this is  the best food for your hermit crabs.

When I opened this product it had a very strong unpleasant order. I threw the product away instead of feeding it to my hermit crabs.
